| Description: Fine Joe DiMaggio 56 Game Hit Streak photographic display piece c.1941. Large 20"x28" matted and framed photographic display commemorates the 56 game hit streak with a sepia tone image of DiMaggio batting positioned in the center with a small typewritten title card beneath, "Joe DiMaggio setting record by hitting safely in 56 straight games 1941". An arrangement of baseball shaped artwork surrounds the center image with each baseball having the pitcher's name, date, and hit number on the front. Large "56" is visible behind the baseballs and "1941" date is positioned at the bottom center. The display has some typical age crazing to the surface in some areas and a few surface creases from buckling. There is also some cracking in a few perimeter areas and a small indentation in the center photo background. Very handsome display piece which is very similar to those created in 1927 to honor Babe Ruth's 60 home runs. The offered display is the only example we have encountered and may be unique given it was created for Joe personally: VG-EX |
