Description: October 20, 1981 World Series Opening Game first pitch baseball thrown by Joe DiMaggio. Official L.MacPhail AL baseball thrown out for the ceremonial first pitch at the Opening Game of the 1981 World Series played between the Yankees and Dodgers at Yankee Stadium. Ball has two pieces of vintage tape residue where a small piece of paper was affixed that is inscribed by Joe DiMaggio, "1st game First Ball Thrown World Series 1981 Yanks-Dodgers". The tape and toning on the ball correspond to the tape and toning residue on the paper. The 1981 World Series was a rematch of the 1950s contests between the Yankees and Dodgers; only this time, the Dodgers defeated the Yankees in six games. Historic first pitch baseballs with primary recipient documentation are very rare and seldom become available to the collecting public.
