| Description: 1948 Joe DiMaggio Sport Magazine Champion of the Year award. Elgin 18K gold pocketwatch presented to Joe DiMaggio by the Editors of Sport Magazine. The watch was given to DiMaggio for his spectacular 1947 season in which he captured the 1947 AL MVP award and led the Yankees to the World Championship. The exterior of the watch is ornately decorated with a Greek athletic scene and raised lettering, "In Honor". "To Joe DiMaggio" is engraved at the bottom of the watch case. The interior plate is inscribed, "Sport's Champion of the Year from The Editors of Sport Magazine January 1, 1948". The watch itself remains very clean in working order. Sport Magazine was one of the more prominent sports publications in the country during the 1940s.
