Description: Important Baltimore Colts 1958/59 Championship flag as flow in Memorial Stadium. Cloth flag executed in blue with white trim lettered "World Champions" on either side with 1958 and 1959 years noted in matching font. One side has additional "Baltimore Colts" team name and both have a variation of the famed bucking Colt logo. An included letter of provenance relays that it was flown in Center Field at Memorial Stadium, below the American flag, from September 27, 1959 until January 3, 1971. When removed from service it was presented to John Ziemann (whom has signed the letter) of the Baltimore Colts Marching Band. Ziemann's involvement with the band, which was the subject of a recent documentary entitled "The Band That Wouldn't Die", continues through the present. The flag measures approx. 79"x125" and displays wear consistent with long term outdoor use including mild soiling with some more pronounced spots and a few small holes/tears. The Baltimore Colts epitomized the rise of the NFL during the 1950-60s era building a legacy for excellence among the elite league franchises. A notably significant piece which long paid tribute to what many consider one of the greatest teams in history at their home field: EX
