Lot Number: 263

Description: Remarkable collection of (50+) Connie Mack signed letters (nearly all handwritten) with related scrapbook and additional material. Significant and intact archive of correspondence from Connie Mack as sent to and saved by scout Jack Murphy offers a fascinating glimpse into their personal and professional relationships. In total, there are over (50) authentically signed letters from Mack with the bulk of these being handwritten and some more than (1) page long. These cover a wide range of topics with relation to their personal interactions, working life, and other general topics (scattered throughout are mentions of Walter Johnson, Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, other notable players, the Athletics team in general, players being scouted, etc). The majority of pieces are housed within a large scrapbook however there are (14) handwritten letters and several typed which are loose. Of those which are in the book, a portion can be removed with only a few resulting staple holes while others would have scrapbook residue/page on back. Nearly all are signed "Con" or "Connie" with a handful bearing a full name autograph. The earliest appear to start around 1924 and they continue through the 1940s (a few are on 1939 Centennial logo stationary). Also found within the book/collection are a Connie Mack signed photo (damage/wear, sig. 6/7 out of 10); "C.Mack" signature on return address portion of envelope; (20+) Mack letters which are secreterially signed; a handful of letters from other notables incl. George Weiss (1928 TLS), Jake Pitler (1931 ALS), Rube Walberg (1933 ALS), Earle Mack, (2) Paul Krichell, several from Bill Hunnefield, Joe Cronin (1965 TLS), and others from different Minor League teams, scouts, etc.; 1931 World Series Game (5) ticket stub; a handful of other ticket stubs; small 1933 Yankees period team photo; several telegrams as sent from Mack, a pair of Mack christmas cards (unsigned), and photo premium of Mack which has printed signature (this piece framed); c.1940s A's partial team ball with secreterial Mack signature; and others. The bulk of the handwriting/signatures rate from 7 to 9/10 out of 10 with a few pieces lesser and there are varying degrees of wear throughout. A rare and unique opportunity and certainly among the more impressive collections of this type which we have offered. Includes full LOA from JSA: Overall EX
