Lot Number: 188

Description: Scarce Hack Wilson professional model baseball bat c.1923-31. Louisville Slugger 125 model bat with Wilson facsimile signature burned into the barrel measures 35.75" long and weighs 34.8oz. Strong usage wear evident throughout with ball and contact marks to the hitting surface which has a number of other impressions and some discoloration. A large handle crack was repaired in the period with a dozen vintage nails. Despite his small stature, Wilson established himself as one of the premier power hitters of late 1920s and early 30s when he turned in National League leading homerun totals (4) times in a (5) year span. His 1930 season ranks among the more memorable in baseball history as he hit (56) homeruns establishing an N.L. record which stood for over (50) years and (191) RBIs; a Major League record to which no one has come close since Lou Gehrig hit (184) the season after. A picture perfect Wilson gamer with his characteristic thin handle, "Hack Wilson" style knob, and wide barrel of noted rarity with this being one of only a scant few we have offered. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions: EX
