Lot Number: 283

Description: Remarkable 1927 New York Yankees autograph collection featuring (29) signed pieces including all Hall of Famers and key rarities. Visually imposing oversized wall hanging represents the labors of a dedicated collector whom took many years pursuing autographs from each member of the famed Championship team. The difficult nature of such an advanced undertaking cannot be overstated with the known signature population of some of these players being a dozen or less. Includes Babe Ruth ("G.H. Ruth") appearing on a personal check, dated 1936, and made payable to "New York State Income Tax"; bold "Lou Gehrig" pencil signature on album page; publication/print images signed "Tony Lazzeri" and "Arthur Fletcher"; a pair of "Atlantic Lithograph" documents, granting permission of the use of their likenesses, signed by the notoriously rare Urban Shocker ("Urban J. Shocker") and John Grabowski ("John P. Grabowski") with each adding further related handwritten notation; similarly rare Walter Beall twice signed endorsement on back of a 1927 Yankees payroll check, additional payroll check endorsed by Ben Paschal (year unknown), and a 1925 dated payroll check signed by Jacob Ruppert and Ed Barrow (the last made out to Wally Schang); scarce "Joe Giard" signed index card and slightly smaller card with scarce "Chas. O'Leary" signature; small paper slip signed "Miller J. Huggins", additional (which is irregular in shape) signed "Myles Thomas", and clipped return address section of envelope signed "Herbert J. Pennock"; handwritten note signed "Walter Dutch Ruether"; personal checks signed by Earle Combs and Wilcy Moore; and index cards signed by Bennie Bengough, Geo. Pipgras, Bob Shawkey, Pat Collins, Waite Hoyt, Ray Morehart, Mike Gazella, Joe Dugan (trimmed), Mark Koenig, Julian Wera, Bob Meusel, and Cedric Durst. Signatures generally rate 8 out of 10 or better with some light to mild scattered wear. All pieces are housed in 43.5"x63" display ("floated" at corners/edges and fully removable) along with a series of images, collector cards, and related items. A remarkable collection and the first we are aware of having been offered intact. Includes full LOA from JSA: EX-NM

Estimated Price Range: ($25,000-$50,000)
