Description: Important 1977 Tony Dorsett UPI "NFC Rookie Of The Year" Award. Substantive presentational trophy has the year "1977" noted atop a crown which sits on the base. Carved wooden pillars at each of the four corners support an upper plinth on which is mounted a loving cup trophy having figural player finial. Inscribed brass placard affixed to the base, "UPI Rookie of the Year Tony Dorsett Dallas Cowboys". Trophy stands 19" tall presenting in superb original condition with minimal visible wear. Dorsett's success at the NFL level was to be expected as he entered the league on the heels of a record setting four year collegiate career at the University of Pittsburgh which included a season for the ages in 1976 culminating with the Heisman Trophy. Dorsett joined a talented Cowboys team in 1977 proving to be the final piece in leading the team, as a rookie, to a Super Bowl championship. He became the first player in history to win a college national championship and Super Bowl title in consecutive seasons. The offered award represents one of the more significant football related trophies to have entered the marketplace. Dorsett's legacy as one of the greatest running backs in NFL history coupled with his tenure with the Dallas Cowboys during the height of the "America's Team" era provide ample confimation of the desirability for this particular presentational trophy: EX/MT-NM
