Lot Number: 228

Description: Johnny Unitas Baltimore Colts professional model jersey with exceptional provenance c.late 1960s. Blue dureen jersey with three quarter length sleeves has blue and white shoulder stripe accents. Player number "19" appears on front, back, and sleeves. "Sand-Knit" manufacturers tag on front tail notes the size, "46" and above is an "Eddie Leonard Sporting Goods" resellers tag. Obtained directly from Johnny Unitas by Duke Hott during a visit to the famed "The Golden Arm" restaurant. At the time, it was relayed by Unitas that it had been on display in the restaurant but was taken down when concern grew that it would be stolen. It remains as it was received with mild usage and a touch of general age wear evident throughout including a small tear on front and general surface "pilling". Upon inspection the "9" numerals used throughout the jersey appear to be period team replacements with vestiges of another numeral faintly visible beneath. The front of the jersey appears to have no evidence of the 1969 NFL patch and is consistent with documented images of 1969 Colts jerseys inclusive of the photo illustrated in the catalogue showing Unitas in similar jersey style. Unitas professional model jerseys of any condition grade are highyl sought after with the offered example enjoying very fine directly sourced provenance. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions and letter of provenance from Duke Hott: EX (with note to number replacement)
