Description: 1898 Fred Clarke Louisville Colonels presentational tray - a wedding gift from his teammates. Sterling silver tray has been engraved in the center, "From The Members Of The Louisville B.B. Club July 5, '98." Clarke had signed with the team for his Rookie season (4) years earlier and by 1897 served as both player and Manager. Both well established and well respected, his team presented him with the offered tray on his wedding day, July 5, 1898. The tray measures approx. 12.5"x9" and is marked "RW&S Sterling" on back with a touch of light wear. Early pieces with substantive ties to both a Hall of Famer and notable team are virtually non-existant with this example being offered for the first time publicly.
