Description: Rare William H. Pierce (Negro League) c.1915-20 vault marked professional model game bat. Spalding brand bat with "Hand Turned No.200" centerbrand stampings originates from the Louisville Slugger vaults and has been side written in grease pencil, "Wm. H. Pierce." The date which appears thereafter can not be fully deciphered but begins "5-6-2." A large portion of the original paper mailing label remains on barrel (toned/discolored and no longer readable) and a "C" is stamped at barrel end. Usage wear evident throughout with a large crack that is partially secured with several nails. Pierce played from 1910-26 with a number of well known Negro League teams including the Philadelphia Giants, Baltimore Black Sox, and Detroit Stars. Noted for his abilities as a catcher, it is presumed that the "C" in barrel denoted his position. An exceedinly rare piece of well documented early Negro League equipment. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions: EX
