Description: Unique 1938 Ernie Lombardi National League MVP Presentational shotgun. Appropriate to the 1920-30s era within Major League Baseball players were often given a choice as to the precise type of award that they received for various honors. Offered may well be the most unique National League MVP award to have been presented in the form of a custom manufactured Browning Arms Co. 12 gauge shotgun. Beautifully crafted gun features incised decoration on the metal stock area with original mahogany grip intact. The gun exhibits evident use and age wear while retaining a fine vintage patina. The gun includes its original leather handled casing which displays an applied silver plated label inscribed, -Presented to Ernest N. Lombardi Catcher Cincinnati Reds by The Sporting News in Recognition of Being Named the Most Valuable Player of 1938 in the National League by the Baseball Writers Association of America+. Lombardi was hailed as one of the finest catchers of the 1920-40s era and led the Reds to several National League Championships and a World Championship during his tenure. Highly interesting and significant MVP award with fine display qualities.
