Description: Oscar Charleston life sized bronze statue from Legacy Square. Fine work depicting Charleston in Homestead Grays uniform stands approx. 6'4" tall (76 inches) atop 44"x36"x6" base. Years of outdoor display have resulted in choice surface patination with no flaws worthy of mention. A mainstay of Negro League baseball for the better part of (30) years, Oscar Charleston was feared both at the plate and on the field and is rememberd among the early 20th Century's most celebrated players. In 1932, while still a regular player, he became Manager of the Pittsburgh Crawfords and presided over what many consider the greatest Negro League ever counting Josh Gibson, Satchel Paige, and Judy Johnson amongst their roster.
