Lot Number: 236

Description: Fine Andy Seminick set of catcher's gear with 1950 World Series attribution. Exceptional and rare grouping of professional model game equipment with each piece including handwritten player direct documentation. Chest protector, shinguards, and mask are all by MacGregor and retain identifiable manufacturers markings and/or model numbers. The name "Seminick" is embroidered along one of the fabric straps of the chest protector; the first such piece of vintage equipment we have seen stitched in this manner. Strong usage wear evident throughout along with some general age wear. A chest protector strap has separated at one side and while unclear it is possible that a small leather flap and buckle are missing. Shinguards have a section of interior material cut away which was likely a period modification done by Seminick. Each piece includes a handwritten and signed letter (from Seminick dated 7/22/88) relating that he used them in the 1950 World Series. Also included are what appear to be a pair of vintage elbow pads (interior pads have hardened) which are vintage signed "Andy Seminick" in marker rating 8 out of 10. A cult hero within the Philadelphia area, Seminick was a key member of the fabled Whiz Kids and contributed a fine effort to their 1950 NL Pennant playing the 1950 World Series with a fractured ankle. It is extremely rare that an ensemble such as this, with succinct and direct provenance, is made available. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions: EX

Estimated Price Range: ($2,000-$4,000)
