Lot Number: 355

Description: Rare 1909 World Series Game (1) ticket stub (Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Detroit Tigers). Original stub issued for game played at Forbes Field which marked the first and only post-season matchup of Honus Wagner and Ty Cobb, the most formidable hitters of the era. Cobb had just won his third consecutive American League batting title and was returning to the World Series with hopes of redemption after the Tigers had failed to win in both 1907 and 1908. Wagner turned in his fourth consecutive National League leading performance and would lead the Pirates to victory in (7) games. It marks the first World Series Championship for Pittsburgh. Stub has mild/moderate wrinkles/creases throughout while retaining vibrant coloration to black printed text which strongly contrasts against the white background. Reverse has a small area of paper loss at one corner, several handwritten Series related notations, and a vintage piece of tape applied vertically. Of noted rarity with this being the first Game (1) stub we have offered at auction in many years and the only we can reference selling in almost as long. Slabbed "Authentic" by PSA: Technical GD-VG
