Description: Significant 1927 New York Yankees team autographed photograph. The 1927 season would mark the 25th anniversary for the American League club from New York and would also play witness to one of the greatest teams in the history of the game. The Yankees had been consistent pennant contenders since their acquisition of Babe Ruth participating and/or winning the World Series for seasons 1921, 1922, 1923, and 1926. It was clear from the onset of the 1927 campaign however that no team would match the mighty Yankees who finished the season with a record mark of 110-44 which was a full 19 games ahead of the powerful Philadelphia Athletics. Although many layers contributed to the team+s success that season, appropriately, Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig enjoyed a year which would see them belt a combined 107 home runs inclusive of Ruth+s vaunted record total of 60. The World Series proved to only be a formality with the Yankees destroying the Pirates in a four game sweep to capture the World Championship. Presented is an incredibly scarce and remarkable 1927 New York Yankees team autographed photograph. Image size measures 7 7/16+x9 _+ depicting the Yankees team posed in full uniform at spring training in St. Petersburg, FL on March 21, 1927. A total of (43) players are pictured in the image remarkably matched by (43) autographs as well as three additional signatures Mark Roth (Trav. Secretary), Ed Barrow (Team President), and Jacob Ruppert (Owner). Hall of Fame members include Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Tony Lazzeri, Miller Huggins (manager), Waite Hoyt, and Earle Combs. In addition, a number of desirable player obscurities are present including Joe Giard, John Grabowksi, Urban Shocker, Myles Thomas, and Walter Beall. The black ink signatures present beautifully against the light background areas in which they were signed ranging from 8-10 out of 10. The photograph itself remains in fine original condition of a matte finish surface retaining its original stamping, -Photo by Ray Williams+ on the reverse along with an additional handwritten identification on the reverse believed to be in the hand of Williams along with date of March 21, 1927. This very same dating is penned on the front of the photograph at bottom left corner in the same hand (Williams+). Overall condition of the image is very fine with small linen tape repair on the back of the bottom corner to repair a tiny tear. Based on inscription, photo type, and provenance it is our belief that this particular image was quite literally the -master copy+ as retained by photographer Ray Williams. To date, only a scant few signed 1927 Yankees images of a similar type have surfaced with the offered example clearly rating as the finest of that elite population with regard to condition, signature quantity, and provenance. The photograph is accompanied by a folio of authentication documents to include: Full LOAs from PSA/DNA and JSA; LOA from Hunt Auctions; Detailed examination reports from Barabe & Associates, LLC and The Conservation Center for Art & Historic Objects, Philadelphia regarding scientific analysis of ink/photograph. Superb piece with relation to the greatest team in Major League history which succinctly ranks among the very finest autographed items we have handled.
