Description: 1988 Los Angeles Dodgers full-size World Series replica trophy. Desirable full scale replica version of the championship trophy was produced by Balfour in commemoration of the Dodgers 1988 World Championship. Standing a full 25" tall, these full-sized replica trophies were produced in far fewer quantities than the miniature replica versions more often seen in the marketplace. The trophy features brass pennants with team names around the perimeter of a large brass circle with a crown finial. Dodgers and Athletics enameled World Series press pin facades adorn the center area with "World Series Champions Los Angeles Dodgers 1988" in black lettering on the front of a brass band around the base. The back of the band reads "Copyright 1983 Commissioner of Baseball". Lead by a lights out pitching staff anchored by Cy Young Award winner Orel Hersheiser, the Dodgers outplayed their heavily favored cross town rivals the Athletics taking the Series in 5 games. Kirk Gibson provided fans with one of the most memorable moments of the modern era when, after being injured in the NLCS, he limped to the plate in Game 1 as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the 9th inning. With his team down by one run, Gibson hit a walk off two run homerun that has been voted the "greatest moment in L.A. Sports history" and was a finalist in Major League Baseball's contest to determine the Greatest Play of All-Time: NM
