Description: 1982 St. Louis Cardinals full-size World Championship trophy. Desirable full scale replica version of the championship trophy was produced by Balfour in commemoration of the Cardinals 1982 World Championship. Standing a full 25" tall, these full-sized replica trophies were produced in far fewer quantities than the miniature replica versions more often seen in the marketplace. The trophy features brass pennants with team names around the perimeter of a large brass circle with a crown finial. Cardinals and Brewers enameled World Series press pin facades adorn the center area with "World Champions St. Louis Cardinals 1982" in black lettering on the front of a brass band around the base. The back of the band reads "Copyright 1983 Commissioner of Baseball". To get to the "Fall Classic," the Cardinals defeated the Atlanta Braves, three games to none, in the NLCS and the Brewers defeated the California Angels, three games to two, in the ALCS. Though the teams had never met, the cities had an existing commercial rivalry in the beer market, as St. Louis is the home of Anheuser Busch while Milwaukee is the home of Miller Brewing. This led to a few minor references to the Series being nicknamed the "Suds Series." The Cardinals prevailed in seven games with catcher Darrell Porter given the Series MVP award. Paul Molitor set a World Series record with his fifth hit, in the 9th inning of Game 1, and Robin Yount would set another record in the 7th inning of Game 5 by becoming the first player in Series history to have two four-hit games: NM
