Description: Highly important 1984 Tony Gwynn San Diego Padres National League Championship ring. At the young age of 24 Tony Gwynn led the upstart San Diego Padres to the National League pennant in 1984. His statistics for the storied 1984 season were quite literally difficult to believe for such a young player compiling a .351 batting average with 213 hits and a .410 on base percentage. Gwynn finished third in the Most Valuable Player voting, was a first time NL All-Star, and batted .368 in the NLCS. His status as an elite player within the game had been established in addition to becoming one of the new stars of Major League Baseball from the mid 1980s era along with others including Sandberg, Gooden, Boggs, and Mattingly. For the San Diego Padres the 1984 season was a breakthrough campaign capturing their first National League title behind a group of young players with a few notable veterans. Their unexpected success during the 1984 season led to record attendance for the franchise and renewed interest in the club as a whole. One side panel features "Gwynn" name above NL insignia with "19" indicating uniform number. Other side panel displays "1984" dating above Padres logo, stadium, "Dreams Can Come True" slogan, and "RAK" initials in memoriam of team owner Ray Kroc. Interior ring band displays proper Balfour 14K hallmarks. Overall condition is outstanding with very minimal surface wear.
