Description: Significant 2008 Harry Kalas Philadelphia Phillies World Series ring. Every team has their legends. Typically they are the players on whom the faithful have come to rest their emotional attachment to the game and with them we ride the ups and downs of winning and losing. There are very few figures who can evoke such as response without ever having taken the field. Harry Kalas was at the top of that short list. He joined the Phillies organization with the opening of Veterans Stadium in 1971 and was the voice of the franchise for nearly forty years. Through down seasons, acquisitions of star players, National League playoffs, World Championships seasons, and moments too numerous to list Harry Kalas provided one of the great broadcasting voices as narration. Although not born and raised in Philadelphia he was 'our guy'. Due to MLB broadcasting rights Harry was not able to call the 1980 World Series victory live on air but instead recorded a cut after the game. The 2008 Phillies World Championship season fittingly culminated with the radio call which Harry had waited so very many years to proclaim, "One strike away; nothing-and-two, the count to Hinske. Fans on the their feet; rally towels are being waved. Brad Lidge stretches. The 0-2 pitch - swing and a miss, struck him out! The Philadelphia Phillies are 2008 World Champions of baseball! Brad Lidge does it again, and stays perfect for the 2008 season! 48-for-48 in save opportunities, and let the city celebrate! Don't let the 48-hour wait diminish the euphoria of this moment, and the celebration. And it has been 28 years since the Phillies have enjoyed a World Championship; 25 years in this city that a team that has enjoyed a World Championship, and the fans are ready to celebrate. What a night!" Offered is the 2008 Philadelphia Phillies World Series ring as presented to Harry Kalas as a member of the franchise. The ring itself is beautifully crafted of a 14 karat white gold, having inset "P" logo with ruby inlay on the top, encircled by -World Champions' lettering. One side panel displays the World Series trophy with "2008" year, and both Phillies and Tampa Bay logos. Other side panel has Kalas' name above a Phillies Liberty Bell logo and crossed bats. Interior ring band is marked "14K". A total of (103) diamonds are found within the ring to commemorate the 103 wins by the 2008 team, with a total weight of 3.84 karats. Size is The ring includes its original glass lidded mahogany presentational box with -Philadelphia Phillies 2008 World Champions' etched onto the top. The 2008 Phillies World Series ring rates as among the more rarely offered and desirable examples of the modern era with only a handful having been sold publicly. Harry Kalas personal 2008 ring may well represent the most significant specimen that will become available to the collecting public with regard to his importance to the team, its fans, and the city of Philadelphia. The ring has been consigned to the auction directly by the Kalas family and we are pleased to announce that they will be donating a portion of the sale proceeds to the Philadelphia Chapter of the ALS Association to which Harry was a devoted supporter for many seasons: NM
