Description: Significant Willie Mays professional model baseball bat c.1965-68. L.Slugger 125 model bat measures 35" long and weighs 33oz. Model number S2 is stamped on knob end along with period ink notation "2999 HIT" which denotes Mays' hit number 2,999 that occurred on July 17, 1970. In addition to being Mays' 2,999th hit it was his 620th career home run. The Giants were playing the Expos and Mays hit a three run home run off of pitcher Carl Morton in the eigth inning. Bat has tremendous usage wear including heavy pine tar residue on the handle, ball/stitching markings on the barrel, and bat rack marks. "MAYS" block letter stamping is very bold on the barrel end. Regarded as the greatest all around player in baseball history by many the offered bat is a superb example from an era which included Mays highest single season home run total of 52.
