Description: Significant Jackie Robinson original artwork from Time magazine cover c.1947. On September 22, 1947, Jackie Robinson graced the cover of Time magazine as an African American Major League Baseball player. While Robinson had certainly received accolades prior to this occasion, it is worth noting the significance of such an appearance on a mainstream magazine at that time. Offered is a series of original artwork by artist Ernest Hamlin Baker used to create the Time magazine cover in 1947. The lot includes three storyboards each displaying various components of the design, including three original pencil sketches of Jackie Robinson and several sketches and celluloid cells of the baseballs in the background art. Measuring 14"x17", the three boards have all been matted and framed. The main board includes a color palate at the bottom and has been matted with the actual cover from the 1947 Time issue.
